Songa is transported from the factory for final commissioning and feels the ocean for the first time.
On Monday, 18 Mar, Songa left the factory by truck and was taken to the commissioning dock in La Rochelle. The trip takes about 2.5 hours, winding through the French countryside on a truck that is specially configured for carrying a catamaran. The boat is strapped on to a hydraulic platform that the driver controls while travelling; raising, lowering, and angling the boat as required to manoeuvre past obstacles. It is something to see.
After a few days to build the mast and do other preparations, Songa was launched on Thursday, 21 March. At this stage the boat is still the boat builder’s responsibility, as they have not yet completed finishing the boat. They have various adjustments to make and quality checks to do, and some equipment to install, which will take about a week. Then it’s handed over to our yacht dealer for them to do the ex-factory work that we’ve ordered. It’s getting closer, with delivery to us expected to be April 30.
